Breast cancer walk team shirts come in a few flavors: a matching ribbon tee with no names at all, a saying everyone likes, a shirt that names the person you're walking for, or the full team-name-and-roster treatment. All four are normal, and the simplest one is the most common. Below you'll find the five design options, 30 team names you can use without a lawyer, 11 editable templates built for walks, what to do if you want names on the back, what to wear on the day, and the order-by math for your walk date.

Quick version on timing, since that's the first question: order 14 days before the walk, and if people join late, add them in a small digital run. The details are at the bottom.

What are the design options for a breast cancer walk team shirt?

There are five ways to do a walk team shirt, from no customization at all to a full roster on the back. Most teams land on the first or second one. Pick by how much the team agrees on, not by how much you can fit on a shirt.

  1. Matching ribbon tee, no names. One pink ribbon or one saying, same shirt for everyone, nothing to collect from anyone. The most common walk shirt and the fastest to order.
  2. A saying plus the year. "Every Step Counts" or "Stronger Together" with the year under it. Still no names to chase down, and the year makes it a keepsake.
  3. Team name on the front. A ribbon plus whatever the team calls itself (the 30 names below are a start). Good when the same group walks every year.
  4. The honoree. "Walking for Mom" or "In Support of [Name]" on the front. The one for a team that's walking for one specific person.
  5. Team name front, roster back. Everyone's name on the back under a headline. The rarest option and the priciest, because of the second print location. Worth it for a big team that wants the photo; skip it for six friends.

Whichever you pick, three things make a walk shirt better than a game shirt. It has to read in a crowd of five thousand people also wearing pink, so pick light pink or white with black print, or black with pink print, and keep the type big. It gets worn for four hours and photographed the whole time, so keep the design centered and simple. And it's a keepsake, so put the year on it if you can.

If you want names on the back, how does it work?

You don't need names on the back, and most teams skip it. If you want them, put the full roster on the back as one design: "WE WALK FOR [NAME]" across the shoulders and the names in two columns underneath. That's a regular back print, it's one ink color, and every shirt in the order is the same, which keeps the price down. Collect names in a shared doc, close it a day before you order, and add "and everyone who joins us" as the last line so late signups don't feel left out.

If you want each walker's own name on their own shirt, that's a different thing. For screen printed orders of 12 or more, individual names are added as vinyl on top of the printed design, and you place that order with us directly so we can match fonts and sizes to names. The names and numbers page explains it. For teams under 12, each shirt can just be its own digital design with the name built in.

Keep the back to one color either way. Two-column names in black on pink, or white on black, read fine from across a parking lot and cost less than a second ink. And if collecting names is turning into a job, that's your sign to go with option one or two above.

What do you wear to a breast cancer walk?

Wear the team shirt, broken-in sneakers, and a layer you can tie around your waist by mile two. Most big walks start between 7 and 9 a.m. in October or November, so it's cold at the start and warm by the finish. Here's what works.

  • Team shirt on top of everything so it shows in photos. If it's cold, put the long sleeve under the tee instead of over it.
  • Light pink long sleeves for the whole team if your walk is in November. The Gildan Ultra Cotton long sleeve comes in light pink and takes the same designs.
  • Wash the shirts once before the walk. A brand-new cotton tee on a four-hour walk is how people learn what chafing means.
  • Sneakers you've walked in already, not the ones you bought for the walk.
  • A ribbon pin or a tutu if your team does that. The shirt is the uniform; the rest is personality.
  • One extra shirt in the car for the person who forgot.

For blanks, the Gildan Ultra Cotton Tee comes in Safety Pink, Light Pink, Heliconia, and Azalea, the Gildan Ultra Cotton long sleeve comes in Light Pink, and fitted cuts are on the ladies' t-shirts page.

How do you handle people who join late?

Order the main batch for everyone who's committed two weeks out, then order the late joiners as a second, smaller run. Anything under 12 pieces prints digitally with no minimum, so three extra shirts the week of the walk is a real order and arrives in time. The main batch of 12 or more is screen printed, which is the cheaper way to print the bulk of the team (the money-saving tips page explains why one big order beats three small ones).

Two tricks that save walk captains every year: order two or three extra shirts in the most common sizes with the main batch, and if you did put names on the back, keep it generic enough ("and everyone who joins us") that the late shirts match.

Breast cancer walk team shirt FAQ

What do you wear to a breast cancer walk?

Your team shirt, broken-in sneakers, and a layer you can take off. Most walks start early in October or November, so it's cold at the start and warm by the end. Wear the team shirt on top so it shows in photos, and wash it once before walk day.

What should our breast cancer walk team shirt say?

A ribbon and a short line is enough; most teams stop there. Add a team name, the year, or the person you're walking for if the team wants it. Skip phrases like "for the Cure" or "Making Strides," which belong to specific charities, and use one of the 30 generic team names above instead.

Do we need everyone's name on the back?

No. Most walk teams order a front-only shirt. If you want a roster, add it as one back-print design with a headline and names in two columns, one ink color, identical on every shirt. For each walker's own name on their own shirt, use the names and numbers option on orders of 12 or more.

How many shirts should we order if people keep joining?

Order the committed walkers two weeks out, plus two or three extras in common sizes. Then order late joiners as a second run. Orders under 12 print digitally with no minimum and are produced in 1–2 days, so a handful of extra shirts the week of the walk still arrives in time.

Should we get long sleeves for a fall walk?

If your walk is in November or starts before 8 a.m., yes. The Gildan Ultra Cotton long sleeve comes in light pink and takes the same designs as the tee. Many teams order tees for most walkers and a few long sleeves for the early-morning crowd, all with the same print.

Can we sell team shirts to raise money?

Yes. Order the full batch at once for the best per-shirt price, set a sale price above it, and keep the difference for your team's fundraising total. Orders of 12 or more are screen printed, and the price per shirt drops as the quantity goes up.

When should we order breast cancer walk shirts?

At least 14 days before the walk for a screen printed order with standard shipping, or 8 days before with rush delivery. Screen printed orders are guaranteed to ship within 7 days, most ship in 4–5 business days, and standard shipping takes 1–5 business days.
